Madison's life thusfar has been pretty simple. Since he was two, he's been raised by his uncle, one of the most famous space pirates of all time. He learned the tricks of the trade from him, and became the pilot of his ship when he was 13. He spent most of his time growing up reading, particularly history texts and old maps. He adores things like that, and would love to give up his illegal lifestyle and just explore space for the rest of his life. A few years ago, his uncle was finally apprehended, leaving Madison to fend for himself. By that time he'd already been joined by Britan, Miles and Ocha, so he figured he had a nice little crew and a steady reputation as a Rockhart. It's been that reputation that's kept him alive in the game, since he's really a terrible space pirate. He tries his best to act tough and be like his uncle, and most of the time it works, surprisingly enough (unless someone is standing the background giggling...)
Madison is a little out of it at times, but it's mostly because there are things he'd rather be doing. He's very easy going and hardly ever gets angry, and when he does, he usually forgets about his anger a few seconds later. He spends most of his time hanging around with Britan, or laying on the couch reading. He likes things to be peaceful, but deep down he enjoys watching peoples problems, but he wouldn't ever let on. He often says things without thinking, then never notices when his statements cause trouble.
All in all, he's really a very nice person with a not very nice job.

Madison: (mad-ah-sohn) There is a large street near my school named Madison, which is where his name comes from. There's also a Madison County here, where my grandmother lives. I'm sure both were named after the president. The name is Old English and means, "Son of the mighty warrior."
And whoever decided Madison should be a girl's name, I would like to slap you on the head with my ruler. It's not that I mind it - I should be one to talk, I give my female characters male names and vice versa all the time. But even Ash thought Madison would be a girl just from looking at the name. Geez. I didn't realise it was such a popular girl's name until Ash told me. I mean, it's got the -son ended, right?
Also, whoever renamed Tomoyo from Card Captor Sakura "Madison"... I would like to slap you SEVERAL times on the head with my ruler, and then throw it at you. Ugh!

Baskerville: (bass-kur-vill) All of the male characters in SunDowner are named after a former (or sometimes current) Memphis basketball player. It's usually their middle name, like here. Baskerville Holmes (isn't that the greatest name?) Baskerville was named after, of course, The Hound of the Baskervilles - his mother was a Sherlock Holmes fan.
It's a Welsh surname, from Britain during the Conquest with Normans from Boscherville; long used on the border of England and Wales.

Rockhart: (rock-hart.. heh) The first of the characters were all created when I was still quite obsessed with FF7. On Japanese FF7 pages, Tifa Lockhart was often referred to as Tifa Rockhart. I liked this version of the name, and decided to give it to Madison until I could think of something better. Unfortunately, it STUCK. As for it's meaning, I can't find anything, tho it is a real surname often used. I would imagine it means what it says, like, "heart of rock" or something :)

Madison was the second character created for the story, and originally he had Britan's temperment with Miles' looks (red hair w/ponytail). Britan was more like the current Madison. Somewhere along the way they got switched. Most of Madison's design is based on an older character, particularly the hair and the sideburns. I remember it was about the time 200 Cigarettes came out, and I remember loving Paul Rudd's sideburns in the ads. I believe that's how Madison's sideburns came about, LOL.
Other than that, there's really nothing special I have to say about him.. his designs are always just whatever I like at the time, and right now he's just drifting along...

Anytime I draw Madison without his headband, it doesn't look right.

He has very bushy eyebrows.

He's really very, very intelligent, even if he doesn't show it...

Speaking of which, he got his pilot's license at the very young age of 11, and he's quite possibly one of the best pilots around.

Gets cold easily.

Has no other family besides his Uncle.
