Britania Ashtaroth first found her way on board two years ago and has been a fixture since. Without her, most of Madison's "pirating" would be pretty pathetic. Where she came from before that is unknown to everyone except Miles, her younger brother. She's in no hurry to go back, and is quite satisfied with the life she now leads.
Britan is undoubtedly the muscle of the group. She's got perfect aim with a gun, AND an itchy trigger finger. When there are no guns involved, she's a topnotch brawler. Britan's not the type of person you'd want to cross, especially with a temper like hers. Despite the fact she yells a lot and often threatens physical violence, she's not all bad. She's got a healthy sense of humour, and she and Madison are the best of friends when she's not yelling at him. They spend their time hanging around, coming up with stupid games and making fun of anything and everything.
She's also quite stubborn, as you can imagine. She refuses to give up her 20 year old gun for a newer model. And, despite the fact I hate the term, she's certainly a tomboy. Her motto about clothing is the same as my own: "Don't wear anything you can't fight in." But just because she refuses to dress like a lady doesn't mean she hates clothes - her favourite thing to do in port is search for new shirts or boots to wear.
As it is now, Britan is more or less the only thing standing between Madison and the Bounty Hunters. Yfandes is the only one who seems to understand this, but since she's been put out of the picture, there's not much she can do for now...

Britania (bree-tay-nyah): Latin meaning "Britain." Personification of Britain or the British Empire.

Britan (breh-tehn): Short version of her first name. I once saw a kid on TV (I believe it was on "Kids say the Darndest Things"), named Britain. Due to my poor typing skills, she quickly became Britan.

Astoria (ahs-tor-e-ah): I can't find any info on the name, but it comes from the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in NY. I just always loved that name, ever since I was a kid, and thought Astoria sounded good with the rest of her name.

Ashtaroth (ash-tah-roth): According to my original notes, Ashtaroth was the Phoenician goddess of the moon, also known as Astoreth, Astarte, and Ashtoreth, and the Babylonian equivalent of Ishtar. I did more research and found this: "Also [known as] Astaroth. The male, medieval incarnation of Ashtoreth. A demon, he was said to appear in the guise of an horrendous angel, riding on a dragon and holding a viper in his left hand, and having revolting foul-smelling breath. Some, however, say that his appearance was that of a handsome human male, half-black, half-white. He is described by Jean Wier as a very powerful grand duke in Hell, where he held the office of great treasurer and commanded forty infernal legions."

Britan was the first character created for this comic. At first it was just she and Madison, and her personality was a lot more like that of the current Madison (while Madison's personality was a lot more like current Britan's) Britan's original design didn't change much... just lost a lot of the 'cute' things and became darker and simpler to reflect her character change. Britan's outfit are usually the easiest to design, mostly because she wears things I would wear.
Despite the fact that she's the most unfeminine of all the females in the comic, she manages to have the longest hair. And a big bow. Her hair is "officially" several inches above her knees. This doesn't mean anything to me, I often draw it shorter or longer depending. But never past her knees, never above her waist. Why she keeps it so long and wears the bow is beyond me.
I have 3 characters in the whole story who are very close to me - Piper, Madison, and Britan. These three share more in common with myself than any of the other characters, tho none of them are quite me. Either way, those 3 tend to get special treatment, but I try not to let it show!

The thing on her forehead... is a thing on her forehead. :)

The thing on her arm (she also has a matching one on her leg, as shown in her Issue 5 design) is just a simple tattoo thing. Nothing to get excited over.

She can't fly a ship to save her life.

Dislikes cats. Very much.
